  • Thom Brennaman Response to Homophobic Slur

    Former Cubs broadcaster Thom Brennaman speculated his long career may be in jeopardy after uttering a homophobic slur during a Cincinnati Reds telecast on Wednesday.

    During the first game of a doubleheader between the Reds and Kansas City Royals, Brennaman -- apparently unaware his microphone was live -- was heard saying "one of the fag capital of the world" while coming out of a commercial break.

    The remark came before the top of the seventh of that game, and by the fifth inning of the nightcap, Brennaman had delivered an apology and signed off the Reds broadcast.

    After four months, it's game on again for the Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association.
    The city's leading LGBT recreational sports organization plans to resume activities on July 12.

    It hasn't been an overnight process. "We started conversations on what reopening would look like in late May," CMSA president Matt Herek said. Those discussions included health professionals and city officials, with the goal of being ready when the city and state got to the point where sports were feasible again.
